Metroscope has a large range of tables in lots of different colours, designs and sizes. Some of our designs are unique and are not carried by other importers.
All are made from zelij (or zellige) or individually made mosaic tiles and sit on a solid wrought iron base. Each unique mosaic table is made by artisans in Marrakech using traditional techniques. The colours range from earthy tones to vibrant hues. The patterns are traditional geometric designs that are also used in the fountains and rooms of grand Moroccan palaces.
Our smallest tables seat 2 and our largest comfortably seat 8 people. We have round, square , oval, semi-circle and rectangular shapes. We also have some low bases for our 60cm, 70cm and 80cm tables to turn them into coffee tables.
The tables can be used indoors or outdoors and look superb on the balcony of a modern apartment, in the garden of a period home, and in a conservatory or sun room. They also look great in hotel courtyards or cafes.
Our table bases are made from hand-made wrought iron (solid, not hollow tube). We usually sell our mosaic tops and bases as a set, however we also sell tops and bases separately.
Metroscope offers free delivery of tables and chairs within the metropolitan area of Melbourne. We can also freight tables to country Victoria or interstate.
Please note, not all our tables are pictured here so if you are after a particular colour, contact us to find out whether we have it in stock.
Moroccan tables look best when you match them with wrought iron chairs. Metroscope has three styles of chairs, all hand-forged in the coastal town of Safi in Morocco.
Our customers are pleasantly surprised when they try them out as they are all very comfortable. Each chair seems to suit a different body shape or size and all are extremely sturdy.
Our screens are available in 3 or 4 panels. They can be used inside or outside.
All our wrought iron wares are coated with Penetrol before they leave our showroom or warehouse to ensure they are weatherproof.
Morocco is well known for its exotic lanterns and we have a large range in stock. Cute small ones to some seriously big, sizes and designs to suit all tastes. The lanterns are all made in the medinas in Marrakech.
Some of Metroscope's lanterns are designed to sit on a table or floor, or hang from a wall bracket or lantern stand. Candles can be used in most of these lanterns. Other lanterns are designed to be suspended from the ceiling and can be wired by an electrician.
Our lanterns are made from glass and metal, or metal only, or with goat skin. All of the lanterns provide a wonderful exotic atmosphere by casting beautiful intricate patterns on walls, ceiling and floors when lit.
Metroscope also stocks wrought iron wall brackets and lantern stands. Our lantern stands are hollowed so that an electrical wire can be threaded through if you wish to wire your lantern instead of using candles.
Metroscope also has a range of wall sconces which can be placed over an existing wall light. The wall sconces can easily and quickly transform a room or courtyard into a delightful Moroccan wonderland.
Metroscope has Moroccan mirrors of different shapes and sizes to create a fabulous feature in your home, garden, shop or café. Available in wrought iron or wood.
Not that we’re suspicious, but we’ve had the mirrors put in the frames here in Melbourne, so it’s top quality (Pilkington) glass.
Colourful and cheery Berber hexagonal cedar tables – they look great as a feature and can be used as bed-side tables or as a side table for your mint tea!
Metroscope has also added two-drawer bedside tables to the range.
Metroscope has a range of ceramics including decorated serving tagines, cooking tagines, and platters and bowls of different sizes.
All our ceramics have been tested at an Australian Government laboratory and comply with the British Standards (used by Australia) for lead and cadmium. This means the cooking tagines are safe for cooking in and the decorative tagines, plates and bowls are safe for serving food in.
Incidentally, we've heard some of our customers pronounce or spell tagines as targines, tangines or even tangenies. The correct spelling is tagine or tajine and phonetic pronounciation is 'tarjeen' with a soft 'j'.
Metroscope's ceramics are handmade in the coastal town of Safi, the home of Moroccan ceramics.
Moroccans have a long tradition of drinking mint tea and we have a variety of high quality tea glasses and tea pots. Even if you're not into mint tea, the glasses are good for wine, whisky or whatever takes your fancy.
Our tea glasses come in two sizes - 8.5cm and 10cm.
The larger glasses can be used for tea lights to create that special atmosphere.
Recently Metroscope added some beautiful red shot glasses to its range.
Metroscope's cushions are hand-woven in the mid-Atlas mountains of Morocco. We have large floor cushions, small scatter cushions and long cushion rolls.
Cushions are available with or without filling. For the large cushions we use lofted wadding or flock, commonly used by upholsterers here in Australia., and for the smaller cushions Premium Fibre is used.
Metroscope's ottomans are hand-stitched from the finest Moroccan leather by Mustapha in the Marrakech medina.
Metroscope has a range of colourful funky Moroccan shoes, otherwise known as babouches. Our handcrafted leather babouches are made in Marrakech, while the raffia babouches are made in the coastal town of Essaouira. We have a range of modern styles, colours and sizes.
Babouche is the Moroccan word for slippers and usually the backs of the slippers are stitched or glued down. We're not sure of the reason for this, but it does make it easy to remove them before entering a mosque or a home. The most common babouches worn by men in Morocco are yellow and it's quite common to see men in a suit wearing a pair of yellow babouches, and if you're wearing a djellaba, or traditional caftan, babouches are the only way to go!
